There are several opportunities for you to lend a helping hand and give back to the community this month.

From packing food or connecting with individuals with special needs, here are five volunteer opportunities available in May 2022.

1. 'Y' Terrarium workshop volunteer befriender by YMCA Singapore and Youth Corps Singapore

This initiative seeks to provide a fun and meaningful session for a group of individuals with Down-Syndrome or special needs, engaging them through learning new skills.

The ‘Y’ Terrarium workshop acts as the pilot programme to this collaboration between the YMCA of Singapore and Youth Corps Singapore, and will be held at YMCA Singapore.

Volunteers will be required to attend a compulsory training session on May 12 from 5pm to 6.30pm. Subsequently, volunteers may attend as many of the four sessions as they want.

The ‘Y’ Terrarium workshop will be held every Thursday from May 19 to Jun 9 from 2pm to 4pm.

This opportunity is organised by The Food Bank Singapore, Singapore’s first food bank which collects excess food from food suppliers and redistributes them to organisations such as old folks’ homes, family service centres and soup kitchens.

Volunteers will assist in packing and distributing food bundles as part of the Joy In Every Bundle programme. The distribution will be door-to-door on May 10 from 2pm to 5pm at Block 183B, Boon Lay Drive.

3. Digital Learning Circles by Youth Corps Singapore

The aim of this opportunity is to accelerate digital literacy for seniors at the Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre (SAC) at Limbang Green.

Volunteers will teach seniors digital skills and how to access various apps such as Wireless@SG, Gov.sg, SingPass Mobile and video calling.

Volunteers will need to commit to the virtual training session and at least one engagement session to complete registration and volunteer for the opportunity.

The project will take place from May 28 to Jul 4, and volunteers have to be aged between 16 to 35. Those interested can register for the opportunity via this link
