Five volunteering opportunities in July 2022
Opportunities this month include helping seniors with their supermarket shopping and enhancing the butterfly habitat at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
There are several chances for you to lend a helping hand and give back to the community this month, especially with the #DoingGood campaign that offers over a hundred opportunities.
From helping seniors have a more efficient supermarket shopping experience to enhancing the butterfly habitat at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, here are five volunteer opportunities available in July 2022.
1. Volunteer befrienders for Befriending Across Ages programme by Youth Corps Singapore
In collaboration with St Luke’s Eldercare, Youth Corps Singapore is looking for volunteer befrienders to host activities and befriend seniors. Possible activities include art and games or karaoke sessions.

The Befriending Across Ages programme will be held at St Luke’s Eldercare in Ang Mo Kio on consecutive Sundays from Jul 31 to Sep 4. Each session will be from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Volunteers will be required to attend a compulsory training session on Jul 30 (Saturday) from 10.30am to 12pm at The Red Box. They are also encouraged to attend a volunteer befriending training session on Jul 29 (Friday) at SIM Headquarters from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
It is required for volunteers to commit to at least two out of the six total Sundays of the programme.
Additionally, volunteers have to be aged between 15 to 35. Those above 22 years old are required to have a valid TDAP vaccination taken in the last 10 years.
Volunteers must also be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Register for the opportunity here.
2. Seniors supermarket learning journey by Infocomm Media Development Authority
This opportunity allows volunteers to teach seniors how to use the Scan and Go function within the FairPrice application on iOS or Google Play Store, allowing them to beat the queue at FairPrice and pay online.
The activity takes place on Jul 20 (Wednesday) from 2pm to 6pm at FairPrice Downtown East.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and must be familiar with the FairPrice app. They must also attend a briefing session (30 minutes to one hour) before the actual volunteer activity and must be able to walk around for a period of time.
Register for the opportunity here. Upon successful registration, SG Digital Office staff will contact, confirm registration and send a follow-up email to the volunteers.
This activity is part of the #DoingGood campaign, an initiative which calls on Singapore to support various social causes, offering over 100 opportunities. Other supermarket learning journeys happening at various locations during this time period can also be found on the website.
3. Shop assistant at New2U Thrift Shop by Singapore Council of Women's Organisations
Also part of the #DoingGood campaign, volunteers take up the role of being shop assistants at the New2U thrift shop.
The New2U thrift shop sells items such as pre-loved clothing, accessories, household items, ornaments and books. Duties for volunteers include hanging and rearranging items, sorting and pricing donations, and cashier duties. No prior skills are required to volunteer.

Volunteers are only required to commit one day per week and should arrive at 10.15am and leave around 2.45pm to help with the set-up and closing of the shop respectively. New2U is only open on weekdays from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

4. Butterfly Habitat enhancement at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park
Also part of the #DoingGood campaign, volunteers can help maintain and enhance the butterfly habitat at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park through basic gardening skills. A volunteer leader will be present to guide volunteers.
The event takes place on Jul 20 (Wednesday) from 9am to 11am.

Volunteers must be able to work under the sun and do basic gardening maintenance such as weeding and pruning.
The session is limited to 15 volunteers. To volunteer for this activity, click here.

Volunteers will create short form videos to empower women and enable families with the support of the organisation’s communications team.

Volunteers need not have experience in social media strategy or content creation, but are required to commit two hours a week for at least three months.
Volunteers must be at least 15 years old, and must be familiar with short-form video platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
