From spray painter to professional footballer, here are some unusual jobs you can consider applying for.
Jobs have taken centre stage since COVID-19 began disrupting the economy.
With much uncertainty over the future of employment, many have taken to job portals to see what opportunities are out there. Beyond openings in more predictable fields, we also found some interesting jobs worth mentioning.
Here are five unique jobs and apprenticeships we found on the MyCareersFuture portal.
It’s not every day you see an ad offering over $7,000 for you to play football.
If the expected salary is anything to go by, it does seem that making football a career is not only a feasible option in Singapore, but a pretty well paying one too (relative to other jobs of course).
But before you put those soccer boots on and submit your application, do note that they are looking for someone with at least five years playing professional football full-time as a striker.
Interested applicants will also need to show their goalscoring record in professional-level competitions sanctioned by FIFA, UEFA and/or AFC.
Expected salary: $7,000 – $12,000
Experience required: Minimum of five years full-time professional football experience as a striker, with proven goalscoring record in professional-level competitions
This apprenticeship may not have the highest pay, but it definitely has the coolest name.
As an Ice Cream Apprentice with local brand Merely Ice Cream, you will be involved in both front of house service and back end inventory management.
You will also be involved in the research and development of new flavours.
Expected salary: $1,800
Experience required: Nil
If you’ve always wanted to paint the town red, this job could well be your calling.
This job ad for a spray painter seeks someone to work at both factory and construction job sites.
While we’re not sure if this job will allow you the creative freedom to become the next Banksy, it does favour those with some experience with spray paint.
Expected salary: $2,000 – $2,200
Experience required: Nil
Known for their limited edition collectibles, Singapore-based Mighty Jaxx is looking for 2D artists for their team.
If you are strong in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, are keen on character design, and want to be part of the team creating beautiful collectible toys, look no further.
Expected salary: $2,400 – $3,400
Experience required: 1-2 years experience and proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.
If you have a Class 3 driving licence, this is a job you can consider.
The company is based in Toa Payoh, and will give additional incentives to drivers who start work earlier: $10 for starting at 7am, and $5 for starting at 7.30am.
You will also receive an additional $20 for each case handled after 7pm. Normal working hours on weekdays are from 8am to 6pm, and you will have two weekend duties in a month.
If you prefer a less adrenaline-fuelled driving job, you could also consider this one for a family chauffeur and personal assistant, open to female applicants only.
Expected salary: $1,600 – $2,200
Experience required: Must have a valid Class 3 driving licence and be able to drive a Toyota Hiace or Nissan Urvan.
