Hooray! With National Day falling on Monday, it’s going to be a long weekend ahead.

While we celebrate the nation’s 56th birthday in a rather muted way this year, there are definitely things to do that will help us get in a celebratory mood.

Here are five things to do this weekend (Aug 6 – Aug 9):

1. Watch a National Day concert

This year’s National Day Parade might be postponed to Aug 21, but Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp will still be holding a National Day Concert.

The hour-long show will be hosted by Jean Danker, with performances by local artistes such as Rebecca Lim, Shabir, Rahimah Rahim and Kym Ng. There will also be a special National Day greeting by President Halimah Yacob.

You can catch the concert on Aug 9 at 8pm on Channel 5, meWATCH and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube.

2. Celebrate National Day with Singapore Discovery Centre

In a true blue Singapore spirit, the Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) is hosting a variety of activities this weekend.

This includes a digital exhibition, Distilling the Singapore Spirit, where you can vote for your favourite mocktails.

SDC will also be screening some Singapore films at its iWERKS Theatre for free. Some of the titles include: Huan Express, Reunion, Asam Pedas Ikan Salmon and Ixora Flower.

3. See some orchids

There is a newly revamped floral display at the Cloud Forest in Gardens by the Bay!

Named Orchid Haven, it showcases over 800 Phalaenopsis orchids in a dedicated space that is three times the size of the original space for the changing orchid displays.

Entry fees to the conservatory start at S$12 for an adult Singaporean, and you can purchase your tickets online here

Gardens by the Bay is located at 18 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018953. It opens daily from 9am to 9pm.

4. Eat a Hainanese chicken burger

Ever heard of a Crispy Hainanese Chicken Burger? Well, you can have!

Launched earlier this week on Aug 5, the new burger is a part of a National Day collaboration between McDonald’s Singapore and local artiste Ben Yeo.

The burger, priced from S$6.60, includes a crispy chicken patty with ginger sauce, garlic chilli sauce and dark sweet sauce.

It is available via Drive-Thru, and for delivery via McDelivery, GrabFood and Foodpanda.

5. Take part in the Skechers Friendship Walk
