This youth empowerment event will run across six months.
If you’re a big fan of video games, Event Midas recently launched Singapore’s largest esports youth activation, NEXUS Your Playground.
Happening over the course of six months at the Somerset Belt, NEXUS Your Playground will focus on the development and wellness in the local game industry.
This initiative is done in partnership with the Somerset Belt and powered by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), and National Youth Council (NYC), with hopes to raise awareness of the esports industry among youth in Singapore and build a community platform as a bridge to access professional opportunities and experiences.
It also aims to develop youths through esports and plans to achieve 300,000 youth engagements with a series of digital workshops, podcasts, tournaments and youth showcases.
The event will be in three phases:
Phase 1 (Jun 5 to Aug 22) will consist of a series of curated podcasts and digital workshops by Byro Energy, Black Magic Design, and Event Midas. The topics of the podcasts and workshops include creative thinking, risk management and mental wellness.
Phase 2 (Sep 4 to Oct 30) will feature digital youth showcase programmes. 17 weekends of friendly tournaments will be held where youths from hosting live streams can enjoy casual matches with their friends.
Phase 3 (Oct 31 to Nov 28) will feature a dynamic Fireside Chat and the official nationwide esports tournament with League of Legends: Wild Rift as the title game with 64 teams competing across nine weekends.
Kin Toh, Event Midas’ co-founder and business development head said: “It’s heartening to witness the growing interest and participation among our youths in the local Esports industry over the years. It has inspired us to organise NEXUS Your Playground to give our youths the support and platform they need to develop their Esports skills.”
