Clementi, Whampoa markets and MBS Casino identified as COVID-19 cluster, closed till Aug 5
Members of the public who have visited any of the three places from Jul 7 to Jul 21 are offered free COVID-19 testing.
Two new COVID-19 clusters have been identified at markets in Clementi and Whampoa, as well as at the Marina Bay Sands Casino, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (Jul 21) night.
The Clementi 448 Market and Food Centre has 22 cases linked to it, while 12 cases were detected at the Whampoa Drive Market.
Both markets had been identified as part of the 35 markets and food centres linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster by the MOH on Tuesday. The Clementi and Whampoa markets will be closed for two weeks from Jul 22 to Aug 5 for deep cleaning and to break the chain of transmission.
There are now 454 cases linked to the Jurong Fishery Port/Hong Lim Market & Food Centre cluster, making it Singapore’s largest active cluster.
Free COVID-19 testing will be extended to people who visited Clementi 448 Market and Food Centre and Haig Road Market & Food Centre between Jul 7 and Jul 21.
To help better identify COVID-19 cases and prevent further transmission, MOH is working with the People’s Association to distribute antigen rapid test (ART) self-test kits to people who visited selected markets and food centres in the last two weeks.
The collection will run on Jul 22 and Jul 23 at residents’ committee centres near Whampoa Drive Market and 726 West Coast Market.
Similarly, the Marina Bay Sands Casino has been identified as a cluster on Jul 22 with a total of 11 cases so far.
MOH said that it is investigating infections among individuals who worked in or visited the casino as epidemiological investigations revealed that there is likely ongoing COVID-19 transmission.
To break the chain of transmission and deep cleaning of the premises, the Marina Bay Sands Casino will also be closed to all members of the public from Thursday Jul 22 to Aug 5.
There will be special testing operations for all staff members of the casino and free COVID-19 testing is extended to members of the public who had visited Marina Bay Sands Casino between Jul 7 and Jul 21.
There were 179 local COVID-19 cases reported on Wednesday.
