Chingay50 to kick off at Jewel Changi Airport on Feb 12
The virtual showcase will include special effects and interactive floor projections.
If you’ve been anticipating this year’s Chingay festival, get ready for a show like no other.
The annual Chingay performance will mark its 50th anniversary with a virtual showcase at Jewel Changi Airport on Feb 12.
Audiences will be treated to a variety of multicultural performances with vibrant costumes against the backdrop of the iconic HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.
With the theme “Ignite Our Dreams”, Chingay50 will reminisce on its growth from a humble street parade to a borderless multicultural festival.
“This year’s extravaganza will be a shared experience that everyone can enjoy,” said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a Facebook post.
The Chingay50 lineup infuses traditional elements with modern ones to appeal to people from all walks of life.
Among the acts are “Big Headed Dolls” grooving to a Chinese folk song “凤阳花鼓” in a street dance performance, and a culturally diverse series of wedding reenactments.
For the first time, there will be a colourful parade of 17 mini floats made from balloons and 3D art, showcasing the efforts of 1,400 residents across Singapore. The display highlights the importance of community involvement.
To bring the festive atmosphere closer to the community, the People’s Association grassroots organisations are also hosting virtual community celebrations. More information can be found on the Chingay website.
The Chingay50 showcase will be presented in a live webcast on Saturday Feb 12 at 8pm. If you miss it, you can catch it on Channel 5 and Channel 8 on 27 Feb at 7pm and on Mar 6 at 1pm.
