The Burger & Lobster branch at Jewel Changi Airport has reopened after the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) lifted the restaurant’s suspension on Jul 5.

The suspension was enforced after a number of patrons had contracted gastroenteritis after dining at the restaurant, said the SFA and Ministry of Health (MOH) in a joint release on Tuesday.

The cases were reported to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the SFA between May 7 and 15. A total of 131 persons were affected, with five ending up hospitalised.

“To protect consumers from further public health risks, the food business operations of the outlet was suspended by SFA since May 16,” said SFA.

The authorities said that Burger & Lobster has complied with all measures stipulated by SFA since the suspension.

These include the disposal of all ready-to-eat food, thawed food and perishable food items and sanitisation of the premises, inclusive of equipment, utensils, food preparation surfaces, tables and floors.

Following its reopening, Burger & Lobster will continue to be closely monitored to ensure that the restaurant adheres to food safety requirements, said SFA.

SFA also reminded food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times, stating that it will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act.

“In the interest of maintaining a high standard of food hygiene at all food establishments, we would also like to advise members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments not to patronise such outlets but to report to SFA via the online feedback form with details for our follow-up investigations,” said SFA.

Individuals can also take measures to prevent the spread of infections such as washing their hands with soap before eating and not sharing food, drinks or eating utensils with others.

Operations of the Burger & Lobster outlet at Raffles Hotel remain unaffected.
