Big Bang MADE my night
Big Bang gave their Singapore VIPs the Bae Bae treatment.
With Korean sensational group Big Bang bringing the house down over a two-night show last weekend, it is no doubt that their fans (VIPs) had one of their best weekends ever. With lavish props and exemplary showmanship, the show was a nostalgic walk down memory lane for VIPs, who had been fans since 2011.

The opening in particular was exceptionally well done. Big Bang’s music videos (MVs) from 2011-2015 were shown before the gig, and as the MV for ‘Bang Bang Bang’ came on screen, the music got louder than before, the lights were dimmed. Suddenly up on stage were all five members, and the mosh pit I was in erupted into a massive party zone.

While recently released singles in Big Bang’s MADE series hyped up the audience, the 2011 and 2012 hits ‘Stupid Liar’ and ‘Bad Boy’ respectively struck an evocative memory of their previous Alive Galaxy Tour 2012. However, it was eventually the 2008 classics ‘Haru Haru’ and ‘Lies’ which brought the 10,000 crowd together, singing with one voice.

Surprisingly, the limelight stealer of both nights happened to be one of the most underrated members, Dae Sung. From his generous fan service to flawless drumming skills, this young member is on the rise.
His powerful vocals echoed throughout the Indoor Stadium during his solo performance of ‘Wings’, and struck an emotional chord in me. As this song marked his re-entry as a singer after his involvement in an unfortunate car accident in 2011, it was exceptionally heartening to watch Daesung perform it with sheer confidence.

Rapper T.O.P did not lose out as well. Known for his superb low voice and insanely fast rapping speed, the crowd went crazy when this rapper manifested his singing skills in Big Bang’s slow ballad, ‘If You’. Following that, his catchphrase “You like?” was enough to earn screams from the crowd, not to even mention VIPs’ reaction when he had a high note challenge with Daesung and Taeyang. Seems like T.O.P is all set for his own debut as a singer.

Main vocalist Taeyang lost no time in making VIPs blush. By making a reference to their single ‘Bae Bae’, he said: “VIPs and Big Bang are like Chapssalddeok (sticky rice cake), we are perfect for each other.”
With Big Bang’s ninth anniversary approaching in August, Taeyang’s sweet talk was more than just honey-coated words. It felt more like an expression of gratitude for VIPs who stood by them despite tough times. This was followed with ‘Bae Bae’ as their final song of the night, which was a perfect closure for the concert. Till next time, Big Bang!
