Behind-the-scene tours of 6 local factories to start in April

The tours will showcase the inner workings of food production factories, a shipyard and a bus depot.

Six local factories will open their doors to exclusive tours starting in April under a programme called Open My Factory.

Run by MyCommunity Singapore, a non-profit organisation aiming to connect people to social networks in the community, the tours will take participants into food and production factories, along with a shipyard and bus depot.

Participants will also get to interact with the workers and industry professionals to find out more about the work they do. 

Tickets for all tours start from $22, inclusive of service fees. 

Here are the six factories that will open for tours:

1. Tower Transit

Guided by a team of experienced engineers, participants will visit the maintenance bays and workshops at the Bulim bus depot in Jurong West to witness its operations, including bus maintenance.

Participants will also gain insight on the passion shared by the engineers who work with Tower Transit.

The tours will take place on Apr 21, May 19, Jun 16 and Jul 21, between 10am to 12pm.

2. Bee Sin Shipyard

In this tour, participants will gain greater insight on the maritime industry, learning how different vessels are docked, assessed and repaired at Bee Sin Shipyard. 

Participants will also get to speak with engineers and captains on their passions and struggles in the maritime industry.

The tour will be held on May 13, Jun 10 and Jul 8, between 10am to 12pm. Participants must also be 13 years old and above to participate in this tour.

3. DoDo Seafood Treats

In this tour, participants can catch Singapore’s only fully automated crabstick production line in action and interact with the team behind the fishball production factory.

 

DoDo Seafood Treats is the only fishball-making company that uses liquid nitrogen in its processes.

The tour will be held on Apr 14, May 12, Jun 9 and Jul 14, between 10am to 12pm.

4. Lee Wee & Brothers

Lee Wee & Brothers is opening its doors to its brand new factory at Bedok, giving visitors an exclusive peek at their otah production line and grilling station.

Visitors will also get the chance to interact with veteran workers as they share their secrets to preparing the traditional Singaporean treat.

The tour will be held on Apr 15, May 20, Jun 17 and Jul 15 between 10am to 11.30am.

5. Tai Hua Soy Sauce

Participants will learn about the equipment used to produce soy sauce, from traditional fermentation tanks to high-tech mixing and filtration systems.

The tour will be held on Apr 28, May 26, Jun 23 and Jul 28 between 10am to 11.30am.

6. Freshening

In this tour, participants will learn how the homegrown business transformed its wet tissues into one of Singapore’s most recognisable brands.

The tour will be held on Jul 7, between 2.30pm to 3pm. Participants must also be 13 years or older to be eligible for this tour. Those interested in the tour can book their tickets here.

For all tours, participants must be fully vaccinated and are encouraged to bring along a mask, an umbrella, hand sanitiser, insect repellent and a bottle of water.

Participants are also encouraged to bring their own wired earphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack) as radio guides will be used for the tour.
