Annual visual art competition ‘13-19 Art Prize’ opens for registration till Sep 10
The Digital Artwork category is open to Southeast Asian residents, while the Canvas Artwork category is open only to Singapore residents.
The second edition of youth visual arts competition 13-19 Art Prize is open for registration to youths aged 13 to 19 in the Southeast Asian region from now until Sep 10.
The competition consists of the Canvas Artwork and Digital Artwork categories. Anyone residing in Southeast Asia can register for the Digital Artwork category, but the Canvas Artwork category is only open to Singaporean residents.
The 13-19 Art Prize was launched in 2021 by The RICE Company Limited (TRCL) to recognise and celebrate young art talents in Singapore.
By going regional, TRCL hopes to “give youths insights into the art scene of their region,” said 13-19 Art Prize advisory committee chairman Chong Huai Seng.
To date, residents from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam have registered for the competition.
Last year, the competition received 221 entries, many of which touched on topics such as family disconnection caused by ageing, the pandemic and key pillars of Singapore’s culture.
Submissions will be judged based on concept, creativity, aesthetic quality and technical skills. The judging panel will comprise well-known Singapore artists and art professionals. In the 2021 competition, the panel included Mr Ong Kim Seng, Mr Tan Siang Yu, Ms Tan Siuli, and Mr Yeo Tze Yang.
Winners will receive prizes according to their prize category. Gold winners will receive a cash prize of $800, Silver winners will receive $500, Bronze winners will receive $300 and Merit winners will receive $100.
All winning works from the competition will also be exhibited and auctioned online to raise funds for The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF), which provides free arts education to underprivileged children and youths.
Participants can submit their works from Sep 15 to 22, and winners will be announced on Oct 7.
