7 long weekends in 2023 after date for Vesak Day revised to Jun 2
The new date for Vesak Day will fall on a Friday instead of a Saturday.
The new public holiday date for Vesak Day 2023 is now Jun 2, announced the Ministry of Manpower on Thursday (Sep 29). As the revised date will fall on a Friday, Singaporeans now have seven long weekends to look forward to next year.
The revised date came following an announcement from the Singapore Buddhist Federation, which verified the new date against Chinese almanacs.
There will be five other three-day weekends in 2023.
As New Year’s Day (Jan 1) and Deepavali (Nov 12) fall on Sundays, the following Mondays are also public holidays.
A three-day weekend will occur from Apr 7 to Apr 9 as Good Friday falls on Apr 7.
Labour Day (May 1) and Christmas Day (Dec 25), both of which fall on Mondays, will also cause three-day weekends.
The longest weekend will be the four-day weekend taking place on Jan 21 to 24 due to the Chinese New Year holiday.
The remaining holidays are Hari Raya Puasa (Apr 22), Hari Raya Haji (Jun 29) and National Day (Aug 9).
