20 public buses decked out in 14 colourful designs to celebrate Chingay’s 50th year
The buses will go around Singapore from today till Mar 27.
Chingay celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and as part of the special occasion, 20 public buses have been decked out in colourful designs.
There are 14 designs inspired by Chingay parades over the last five decades, including one newly commissioned for Chingay50 designed by local artist Sam Lo.

The newly commissioned Chingay50 bus design is a transitional collage of images inspired by the colourful display of elaborate floats, costumes and performances at past Chingay Parades that showcased the rich multicultural elements and creativity, as well as people from different cultures coming together in harmony to celebrate.
The design uses a transitional collage with a modern twist to combine different elements across eras, ethnicities and cultures.
The other 13 designs are reimagined from past Chingay iconic floats over the last five decades.
These buses will ply the roads from today till Mar 27, with some travelling through cultural precincts like Little India, Chinatown, Geylang Serai and the civic district.

Upon boarding the buses, commuters can access various Chingay50 content such as #OurChingay50Stories and the ‘Did You Know’ segment and interact with them during their bus rides.
Members of the public are also encouraged to snap and post photos of any Chingay50 buses on their Facebook or Instagram with hashtags, #ChingaySG2022, #OurChingay50, #HeyChingay50Bus to stand a chance to win attractive prizes worth a total of $7,000 in the Snap, Tag & Win campaign.
[#HeyChingay50Bus] #HeyChingay50Bus is here! How we all missed having the Chingay floats on our streets! For this year’s Chingay celebrations, we have turned some buses into reimagined Chingay floats, and they will be plying the streets of Singapore from 25 Jan to 27 Mar 2022. We hope that these reimagined floats can re-ignite vibrant shared memories and experiences for members of our community across all ages, uplifting and celebrating this year’s Chingay as one Singaporean community. The “floats” are inspired by designs of past Chingay floats, and each one is unique. Those on board the “floats” can also expect an immersive interactive digital experience to find out more about Chingay. Hop on one soon! #PeoplesAssociation #ChingaySG2022 #OurChingay50

Artist Sam Lo said: “50 years of Chingay is a milestone event. It is an honour to be involved in such a special year in Chingay’s history. Growing up we would watch Chingay on the TV and just the historical importance of such an event was enough to bring up feelings of pride of belonging to such a diverse multicultural and multi-talented community we call home.
“Learning more about Chingay through this project was a very humbling experience as it gave further insight into the spirit of the yearly extravaganza, and the heart and soul that goes into every edition. Given the magnitude of every Chingay, I hope the Chingay50 design was able to translate this very special energy.”
