11 bars from Singapore included in the 2023 Asia’s Best 50 Bars list
New additions to the list include Employees Only, Native and Stay Gold Flamingo.
A total of 11 Singaporean bars made it to the Asia’s Best 50 Bars 2023 list unveiled on Tuesday (Jul 18) at an awards ceremony in Hong Kong.
First launched in 2016, Asia’s Best 50 Bars showcases innovative talent in the drinks industry.
The 11 establishments are Analogue Initiative, Atlas, Employees Only, Jigger & Pony, Manhattan, Native, Nutmeg & Clove, Republic, Sago House, Stay Gold Flamingo and 28 HongKong Street.
Included in the top 10 of the list are Jigger & Pony, Nutmeg & Clove and Sago House in second, seventh and 10th place respectively.
Following up in the 15th and 16th positions are Analogue Initiative and Republic. Manhattan is in 21st place, 28 Hong Kong Street in 24th place and Atlas in 27th place.
The 32nd and 42nd places are awarded to Stay Gold Flamingo and Native respectively.
The annual ranking is determined with votes from 260 knowledgeable and well-travelled members of the bar industry, drinks media and mixology experts from across Asia. They are known as the Asia’s 50 Best Bars Academy.
The voting system and procedures are overseen by global adjudication company Deloitte.
New additions to this year’s list include Employees Only, Native and Stay Gold Flamingo. Three bars from the previous year’s ranking – MO Bar, No Sleep Club and Tippling Club – did not reemerge.
Retaining its place in the second spot this year is Singapore’s Jigger & Pony, along with Hong Kong’s Coa, Bangkok’s BKK Social Club, Tokyo’s Bar Benfiddich, and Seoul’s Zest in first, third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Jigger & Pony is also a recipient of the Rémy Martin Legend of the List Award 2023. The award is presented to bars that have remained consistent in their rankings since the beginning of Asia’s Best 50 Bars in 2016.
Another accolade presented to a Singaporean bar is the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award 2023 to Sago House. For this award, 280 members of the voting panel were asked to name one bar where they received the best service within the 18-month judging window.
Analogue Initiative received the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award 2023. Determined by 50 Best’s audit partner the Sustainable Restaurant Association, the award is given to the venue that achieves the highest environmental and social responsibility rating.
