The light projections are a show of solidarity for the arts and culture sector.
This year’s National Day celebration is about to get a little bit more special.
Ten arts and cultural institutions and national monuments in the Bras Basah-Bugis precinct and the Civic District will be lit up in red and white from now until Aug 30 to celebrate Singapore’s 55th National Day.
A joint effort by agencies and institutions under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, the light projections are a show of unity across the arts and culture sector. It also seeks to encourage and inspire Singaporeans through the National Day period.
The 10 buildings are The Armenian Church, Asian Civilizations Museum (ACM), Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Central Fire Station, CHIJMES, Esplanade, National Gallery Singapore, National Museum of Singapore, The Arts House, and Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall (VTVCH).
The National Gallery Singapore’s façade will be illuminated in red and white, while the exterior of its veiled canopy facing the Padang will feature projections of 60 original artworks by artists in Singapore.
At the National Museum, the whole facade of the museum will be blanketed in a special projection of the National Day 2020 theme, “Together, A Stronger Singapore”, in all four official languages.
Esplanade’s spiky domes will be lit in our national colours, while a Lion Head symbol will be added onto the domes’ lighting design on Aug 9.
The Arts House will spotlight two spectacular installations inspired by Singaporean writer/illustrators, In Universe by Troy Chin and popular children’s series Sherlock Sam and the Supper Club by writers A.J. Low and illustrator Drewscape, on its lawn.
Meanwhile, the VTVCH façade as well as interior spaces will be lit in the national colours, to create a dramatic and patriotic hue of the Grand Dame, set against the majestic Singapore skyline.
All the light projections will be on show till Aug 30. They will run from 7pm/7.30pm till 12am daily.
